We offer German courses for fast learners, academics and employees of the University of Mannheim and other universities.

Evening classes will be held again IN PRESENCE in FSS 2023 (if there are no state requirements, which make this impossible).

Important Information

Which CEFR levels are tought?

Our evening courses for academics are offered in the following course levels:

  • A1: Beginner
  • A2: Advanced
  • B1: Advanced
  • B2: Advanced
  • C1: Advanced

Further levels (minimum number of participants: 5) upon request

What are the course contents and objectives of the different levels?

Language Level A1

Objectives: Participants can deal with simple, everyday situations, e.g. introducing themselves, asking for information, reporting about studies, career, interests or family. In order to achieve these goals, basic vocabulary and basic grammatical knowledge of the German language are taught.

Language Level A2.1

Objectives: Participants can report about their everyday life, ask for information and talk to others about tasks or plans. Participants can understand simple texts (listening and reading texts). In order to achieve these goals, the basic vocabulary and grammatical knowledge of the German language already learned at level A1 is expanded.

Language Level A2.2

Objectives: Participants can talk about interests, experiences, wishes etc. and express their opinions. Participants can understand simple texts (listening and reading texts) and express their opinion. In order to achieve these goals, the basic vocabulary and basic grammatical knowledge of the German language already learned at levels A1 and A2.1 is expanded.

Language Level B1

Objectives: Participants can talk and discuss everyday topics and understand simple texts on current affairs (listening and reading texts), summarise them and express their opinions. Participants can write structured texts. In order to achieve these goals, the basic vocabulary is expanded and more complex grammatical structures are introduced.

Language Level B2

Objectives: Participants can speak and discuss more complex topics in a coherent way and understand more complex listening and reading texts (e.g. from the media). The participants can write structured, argumentatively convincing texts and give lectures. In order to achieve these goals, vocabulary on important topics beyond the basic vocabulary is developed and complex grammatical structures, especially those found in scientific language, are introduced.

Language level C1 – C2 (proficient language skills)

Learning objectives: Participants will be able to understand demanding texts on a wide range of topics and to express themselves spontaneously, fluently and clearly structured on complex issues. Participants will be able to cope with situations they encounter in their studies or work.
