Important Information About Our Intensive Courses

Is there a Course System and what does it look like?

The intensive courses cover text processing, listening comprehension, grammar, text production and oral communication. The courses are made up of modules that build on each other. The levels and course layouts are based on the Common European Framework of Reference. (CEFR).

What are the course contents and learning objectives at each level?

A 1

Learning objectives:
Understand and use simple phrases; can introduce themselves and ask other people personal questions and answer personal questions.
Grammar:
W questions, yes/no questions, certain/indefinite/negative articles, adjectives, personal pronouns; conjugation present, imperative, modal verbs, numbers, verbs with accusative and dative, place and time, possessive articles, separable and inseparable verbs, alternate prepositions, perfect, participatory.
A 2
Learning objectives:
Be able to communicate in routine situations involving a simple and direct exchange of information about familiar and common things (e.g. description of one’s background and education, immediate surroundings and things related to immediate needs).
Grammar:
Preterium, suffixes (because, although, if, that), advice withshouldcomparative and superlatives; adjective declination in nominative, dativ, accusative, questions withwhat a…” andwhat,” relative sentences, futur I, final sentence withumto,” infinitive withto.”
B 1
Learning objectives:
Can handle simple situations, report on experiences and events, describe dreams, hopes and goals, give brief reasons or explanations.
Grammar:
Präteritum, Plusquamperfekt, Zustandspassiv, subsidiary sentences (as, if, after), conjunctive II, subsidiary sentences (thus, withoutto infinitive, da, instead ofto infinitive so that, so…, since, until, during, before), direct and indirect question sentences, personnel pronouns, reflexive verbs, reflexive pronouns, relative sentences, ndeclination.
B 2
Learning objectives:
Be able to communicate spontaneously and fluently, so that a normal conversation with native speakers is possible without much effort on either side. Be able to express yourself clearly on a wide range of topics and explain a point of view.
Grammar:
Causal, consecutive, conditional sentences, conjunctive I and II, connectors and prepositions, adjective declination, process passive, nominalization, genitive.
C 1
Learning objectives:
Can express themselves spontaneously and fluently. Can use language effectively and flexibly in social and professional life, or in training or study, and can express themselves in a clear, appropriate and structured manner on complex issues and matters. Rarely make mistakes and can usually correct themselves.
Grammar:
Participative sentences, subjective modal verbs, passive substitution, nominalisation.

When and where do the courses take place?

The courses usually take place Monday to Friday from 08:30 to 12:45
With few exceptions, even in the afternoon.
The courses take place on the premises of the University of Mannheim.
These are located in the immediate vicinity of the Mannheimer Schloss and the main train station.
